El Paso born. Brooklyn based. Photographer / Fotógrafa.
Cosima Rangel is an award-winning photographer whose work lives somewhere between observation and intention — polished enough for a campaign, instinctive enough to catch the moment nobody planned.
Born and raised in El Paso, Texas, Cosima developed her eye in the borderland: a place of enormous skies, desert light, two languages, layered cultures and people with stories worth paying attention to.
For more than a decade, she has photographed them.
Her career has moved across photojournalism, editorial portraiture, sports, live events, commercial work and personal photography, with published work and assignments spanning newsrooms, institutions, businesses, artists, athletes, families and brands.
Today, Cosima is based in Brooklyn, New York, photographing a new city without leaving El Paso behind.
The landscape changed.
The way she looks at people didn’t.
Before the pose.
Before the perfect light.
Before anyone worries about what to do with their hands.
Cosima wants to know who she is photographing and why the image matters.
Her photojournalism background taught her to watch before directing — to notice expressions, gestures, relationships and the half-second when a photograph becomes more honest than the setup around it.
That instinct carries into everything she shoots.
A portrait should look like you, not a photography trend.
An event should feel like the night actually felt.
A brand should look like a world someone wants to enter.
And a story deserves more than a technically perfect picture.
It deserves a point of view.
El Paso remains part of Cosima’s visual language and professional life.
It is where she built her career, developed deep community relationships and spent years documenting the people, institutions, sports, celebrations and stories of the region.
Brooklyn is the next chapter.
New York has expanded the canvas: artists, music, food, fashion, businesses, neighborhoods, cultural institutions and people arriving from everywhere.
Two very different places.
One photographer shaped by both.
Cosima’s professional work includes photography for editorial publications, public institutions and commercial clients, alongside years of portrait and event work.
Her photojournalism has also received recognition in feature photography and photojournalism, including awards from Texas Managing Editors.
But awards and bylines are only part of it.
After ten years, what matters most to Cosima is still remarkably simple:
Cosima works fluently in English and Spanish.
That matters.
Photography depends on communication, comfort and trust — whether she is directing talent on a commercial production, photographing a family, documenting a community or trying to get an honest expression out of someone who insists they hate having their picture taken.
No translator between photographer and subject.
No distance that needs to be there.
English / Español.
